If you have ADHD and need a prescriber for Adderall, Vyvanse, Ritalin, or another stimulant medication, Mind & Metabolism can help. We're a psychiatric practice in Lakewood, Washington offering telehealth to adults and adolescents (13+) across the state. Elizabeth Calfos, DNP, PMHNP-BC is our board-certified psychiatric nurse practitioner and manages stimulant prescriptions as part of ongoing ADHD care.

Stimulants are the most commonly prescribed medication for ADHD, and for many people they make a meaningful difference in focus, follow-through, and daily function. But they're also Schedule II controlled substances, which means they come with specific legal requirements around prescribing and monitoring. We handle all of that — clearly and without unnecessary hassle.

What we prescribe

We prescribe the full range of stimulant and non-stimulant ADHD medications, depending on what's right for you.

Adderall / Adderall XR Mixed amphetamine salts, immediate and extended release
Vyvanse Lisdexamfetamine, long-acting amphetamine prodrug
Ritalin / Concerta Methylphenidate, immediate and extended release
Focalin / Focalin XR Dexmethylphenidate, immediate and extended release
Strattera Atomoxetine, non-stimulant option
Wellbutrin / Qelbree Non-stimulant alternatives when stimulants aren't the right fit

How stimulant prescribing works

Before prescribing any stimulant, we complete a full psychiatric evaluation. This applies whether you're new to ADHD treatment or transferring from another provider. We review your history, confirm the diagnosis, and make sure there are no medical or psychiatric reasons a stimulant would be risky for you.

Once treatment starts, stimulants require monthly follow-up appointments. Washington State law does not allow automatic refills on Schedule II medications — each monthly prescription requires a new authorization from your provider. We make this as easy as possible with brief telehealth check-ins. Most refill visits take 10 to 15 minutes.

Telehealth stimulant prescribing is currently permitted under federal rules. You do not need to come in person to get started or to manage your prescription — telehealth appointments in Washington State cover both.

Who we see

We see adults and adolescents ages 13 and older. You must be physically located in Washington State at the time of your appointment. We accept most major insurance plans, including Aetna, Cigna, UnitedHealthcare, Premera, Regence, Medicare, Molina, and others. See our full insurance list.

If you're transferring from another prescriber — a primary care doctor, a previous psychiatrist, or a telehealth-only service that's closing — we can take over your care. We'll review your records and medication history as part of the intake process.

What we don't do

We're an outpatient psychiatric practice, not a prescription mill. Every patient goes through a proper evaluation, and medication decisions are based on clinical judgment. If stimulants aren't appropriate for you, we'll tell you why and discuss alternatives. We also don't prescribe stimulants to patients who are in active substance use that makes them unsafe — that's both clinical best practice and a legal requirement.

Frequently asked questions

Can I get Adderall prescribed by telehealth in Washington State?

Yes. Under current federal telehealth rules, stimulant medications like Adderall can be prescribed via telehealth in Washington State following a proper psychiatric evaluation. You do not need to come in for an in-person visit to start.

Do I need a new evaluation if I was already diagnosed with ADHD?

If you have a prior ADHD diagnosis, we still complete an intake evaluation to review your history and confirm the diagnosis before prescribing. This is both good clinical practice and required by law for controlled substances.

What stimulant medications do you prescribe?

We prescribe stimulant medications used for ADHD including Adderall, Adderall XR, Vyvanse, Ritalin, Concerta, and Focalin, as well as non-stimulant alternatives like Strattera and Wellbutrin. The right medication depends on your history, health, and what has or hasn't worked before.

How often do I need follow-up appointments?

Stimulants are Schedule II controlled substances. Washington State requires prescriptions to be issued monthly with no automatic refills. Most patients schedule a brief follow-up each month, by telehealth, to renew their prescription.

Does insurance cover these appointments?

Most major plans cover outpatient psychiatric visits for ADHD management. The medication itself is covered separately under your pharmacy benefit. See our accepted insurance.
